An artist's sketchbook, turned into a site she can sell from

Oil pastels, watercolours and ink, photographed on a phone. The site had to look like her sketchbook, not like a template, and it had to work without anyone chasing likes.

Homepage of Nazia Fatima's site: hi, I'm Nazia Fatima, with three taped sketchbook pages

The brief

Two dozen paintings, a short note she had written about burning out on posting, and an Instagram handle. That was all. The photos were taken on a patterned cloth, some sideways, some upside down, most with the spiral binding in the frame.

Her note set the tone for everything else. She had stopped enjoying art when it turned into performing for an algorithm. A site full of follower counts and urgency would have repeated the same mistake, so we left all of that out.

What we built

  • Every painting straightened and cropped out of its phone photo, with the original photo one tap away
  • A page and its own share card for each of the twenty four paintings, so a single piece can be sent on WhatsApp or in a story
  • A true-size wall preview: the A5 original shown in a frame above a side table, on four wall colours
  • Originals for sale, with a simple order form that goes to her email and a red dot sticker once a piece sells
  • A notes wall where visitors leave something kind, shown only after she reads and approves it
  • A private desk for her: notes waiting, visits by day, and the most opened paintings

The design

A spiral binding runs along the top and bottom of the page, her note sits on a torn dot-grid sheet, and captions are handwritten. Older, carefully detailed pieces sit in their own section, with the same leaf painted then and now side by side.

How it runs now

Orders arrive as emails with the painting's name and price. Notes wait on her desk until she says yes. Visit counts are there when she wants them and nowhere on the public page.
